Pune civic body reissues property tax bills for 2 lakh properties without discount as owners fail to submit PT3 forms. The expected revenue is Rs. 50 crore.
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to reissue property tax bills for approximately 2 lakh properties, withholding the usual 40% discount. The occupants of these properties failed to submit mandatory self-occupancy certificates (PT3 forms), rendering them ineligible for the discount.
Ajit Deshmukh, head of PMC’s property tax department, revealed that the process to determine the new bill amounts is currently underway and is anticipated to conclude by December-end. This initiative is projected to generate an estimated revenue of Rs. 50 crore for the civic administration.
Initially, property owners of self-occupied properties were given until November 15 to submit PT3 forms, a deadline later extended to November 30.
However, by the deadline, only 96,000 forms were received. The civic administration specifically sought forms from property owners who incurred additional taxes as arrears and those whose properties were registered with the property tax department after 2019.
Utilising GIS mapping, the civic administration sent SMS notifications to certain property owners, emphasising the importance of complying with the PT3 form submission requirement. This measure aims to streamline the billing process and ensure fairness in property tax assessments.
